FAQ's House and Garden Tours and Wednesday Open Gardens
How long do tours take?
Tours of the house take around 1 1/4 hours. Tours of the Gardens take around an hour. Timings vary depending on the speed of the group and the number of questions asked.
Who leads the tours?
Tours are led by one of our trained guides or occasionally by one of the owners. If possible, our Head Gardener will be on hand to answer questions on garden tours.
Is there wheelchair access?
There is a small step (75mm) up to the ground floor rooms of the Hall. Access to the first floor is regrettably not possible in a wheelchair. The Gosnold Suite is accessible by wheelchair. Most of the Gardens are accessible by wheelchair. The main driveway and area surrounding the Gosnold Suite are gravelled. The lawns can become waterlogged after heavy rain.
Can you provide refreshments?
Yes, we offer a full range of teas, coffees and soft drinks and are also licensed to serve alcohol. We can provide a range of lunch options and afternoon cream teas. Please see the menu options under 'Price tariff and Menus' on the tour pages. All refreshments must be booked in advance.
Can we bring picnics?
No. Only refreshments purchased at Otley Hall can be consumed here.
Can we take photographs?
Yes, both inside and outside, but only for private use. Any commercial use is strictly forbidden. Any publication of pictures must have prior authorisation from the owners.
How many people can you have on a tour?
From 1 to 100! Groups over 25 are split each with their own guide to make the tour more comfortable.
When must I confirm numbers and do you require a deposit?
We do not require a deposit but all bookings must be confirmed in writing and are subject to our terms and conditions. We ask for final numbers 3 working days prior to your tour. You will be charged for this number or the number attending, whichever is the greater. Group leaders pay the standard rate.
If we tour the Hall can we spend time in the Gardens?
Yes, up to 30 minutes. For a longer time in the Gardens, please consider a Garden tour or return on a Wednesday during May to September when the Gardens are open (entry fee applies).
Can children tour the Hall?
Yes, we welcome parties of children on organised visits. We have a shorter version of the tour more suited to younger visitors and two quizzes for children to complete.
When are the Gardens and Cafe open to the public?
Garden tours can be booked at most times of the year. Our regular Open Gardens is every Wednesday from May to September, 11am to 5pm. Occasionally the Gardens are closed for functions. Please check the website for details.
Are dogs allowed in the Gardens?
Yes, but they must be on a short lead at all times. Any litter must be bagged and taken away with you.
How does your seasonal pass to the Gardens work?
You pay a one-off fee (£5 in 2016) to the Gardens and are given a seasonal pass. This entitles you to unlimited returns on Wednesdays for the remainder of that season. The pass is non-refundable, non-transferrable and can be revoked at any time without compensation. The pass is not valid for any other event or function including charity events. No refunds are given should the Gardens be closed for any reason during the season.
