FAQs Weddings

What’s included in the price?

  • For receptions, the venue fee includes hire of the Gosnold Suite, tables and chairs for the wedding breakfast, exclusive use of the grounds on the day of your wedding and event management throughout. If you are just having your wedding ceremony at Otley Hall, the price includes the hire of your chosen ceremony room and the Gosnold Suite, chairs (other than for ceremonies on the Croquet Lawn) and exclusive use of the grounds for one hour before your ceremony and 1 ½ hours after. For all ceremonies held on the Croquet Lawn you will need to hire appropriate chairs. If you hire a marquee (at your expense) for your wedding breakfast the supplier will normally include all furniture. We do not provide furniture for use in marquees.
    • Do you add VAT to the price?

      • No – the price stated is the price you pay.
        • Can you help with recommending accommodation?

          • Yes. We have a list of hotels and B&B’s to suit all budgets.
            • Do you provide catering?

              • No. However, we have a number of highly recommended caterers to suit all tastes and budgets.
                • What about drinks and a bar?

                  • You are free to provide your own drinks for the wedding breakfast or drinks reception after your ceremony. We do not charge corkage. For the evening reception, we do ask that you use our cash bar, provided by Thebarsteward.com. They provide an extensive range of drinks, cocktails, draught and bottled beers, glasses and bar staff to serve and clear up. Drink prices are on a par with pub prices. A minimum spend applies, although there is rarely a problem meeting this figure!
                    • Do you allow confetti and where can we throw it?

                      • Yes – no wedding is complete without it! However, it must be dried rose petals ONLY! Artificial confetti, particularly foil backed card, is almost impossible to clear up and can remain as rubbish in flowerbeds etc. for many months after your big day. Confetti can be thrown on any hard surface around the Hall.
                        • Can we have candles?

                          • Yes, although they must be placed safely and in appropriate holders under our instruction. They can be used in most rooms and in the garden.
                            • How much of the rooms can we decorate?

                              • As much as you like, subject to our approval. However all decorations must be fixed with string, fishing line or some other form of non-invasive fastener. Any damage caused must be rectified. Under no circumstances can nails or screws be used.
                                • Can we come back and see the Hall and gardens again?

                                  • Yes – you are very welcome to visit again and bring family. But please arrange an appointment first.
                                    • Do you allow fireworks?

                                      • Our experience suggests that they are rarely worth the expense and they tend to disrupt the flow of the evening. Even a professional fireworks display causes some damage to our lawns and leaves a certain amount of rubbish in the grounds. For these reasons, we prefer not to have fireworks.
                                        • Do you allow Chinese lanterns?

                                          • Whilst these can appear attractive, they are a considerable hazard to both the Hall and neighbouring farmland and properties. For this reason, we do not permit them.
                                            • When do we need to pay the balance?

                                              • Full payment must be made 7 days prior to your wedding.
                                                • Do you allow hog roasts / BBQ’s?

                                                  • Yes as long as they are provided by a professional caterer.
                                                    • What type of music can we have?

                                                      • Discos, bands, a string quartet, steel band, replica juke box – whatever takes your fancy! Amplified music can only be played in the Gosnold Suite or in your chosen ceremony room. Please remember that any music played at a ceremony must not have any religious connection. Please confirm your music choice with your registrar.
                                                        • How much of the garden can we use?

                                                          • Pretty much all of the 10 acres. The area around the swimming pool and tennis court is strictly private as is the terrace to the rear (moat side) of the Hall. The pool house and barn are also private.
                                                            • Can we have access the day before/ after?

                                                              • Yes, you can have non-exclusive access on the day prior to your wedding from 12 noon to 5pm. This is solely to allow you to drop off personal effects, wine etc. and to decorate rooms; please understand that it is not an opportunity for friends and family to spend time wandering in the gardens - that happens on your wedding day! Please note the kitchen facilities in the Gosnold Suite are not to be used for catering on the day before. If you do need to use catering facilities on the day before your wedding an additional hire charge applies. All your personal effects, cars, rubbish etc. must be cleared by 12 noon on the following day.
                                                                • When does our day have to end?

                                                                  • All good things come to an end. Our licence stipulates that all music must stop promptly at 11pm and the bar must also close at 11pm. These are non-negotiable terms. All guests must have left the grounds by midnight.
                                                                    • Can guests leave cars / belongings overnight?

                                                                      • Definitely. However, all cars and personal belongings must be collected by 12 noon on the following day. We accept no responsibility for any item left at Otley Hall.
